On Monday at the Boao Forum for Asia in China, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won proposes sharing knowledge on social enterprises with Chinese partners. SK Group recently turned its maintenance, repair, and operations business into a social enterprise named Happynarae Co. following pressure over Korea’s conglomerate-friendly environment.
During a breakfast meeting with roughly 40 Chinese politicians, government officials, businesspeople, and academics, Chey spoke about SK’s experiences in supporting social enterprises. He emphasized the importance of raising employment and reducing the income gap.
“Social enterprises can be a significant alternative to resolve social problems accompanying rapid economic development and achieving sustainable development,” Chey said.
The similar social structures between China and Korea mean a degree of relevancy in SK’s social enterprise model adaption in China.
