Brothers Craig and Marc Kielburger are two of Canada’s most prominent social entrepreneurs and co-founders of social enterprise Me to We, an organization that empowers people to change their lifestyle and make better choices. The social enterprise is multifaceted, from offering volunteer trips abroad to enabling fair-trade markets for women artisans. Craig is also the founder of international youth development organization Free The Children.
The brothers regularly contribute tips through news columns to those who want to adopt socially conscious lifestyles and recently released a new book entitled Living Me to We: The Guide for Socially Conscious Canadians.
The book shows the things that Canadians can easily do in their everyday lives to make a difference. It teaches how to seek out ethical investments and carbon-friendly vacations. It also encourages mindful decision making on smaller everyday items, such as the choice of coffee drank each morning, adopting Meatless Monday, or refrain from printing ATM slips when taking out money. For the bigger movers and shakers, the end of the book has a resource guide for starting a movement.
From the 15 years that Craig and Marc have been travelling and advocating for social justice, they have been inspired to put together a guide with practical tips for any Canadian. The appetite for contributing to society is there, but many Canadians feel they do not know what to do or do not have time to do it.
In a recent interview with CBC, Marc says one of the biggest ways Canadians can help is in how they live and what they choose to buy.
“Every drop helps, every drop counts, but we have to change how we vote, how we shop, how we consume, and how we live here in Canada.”
