What started as a trivia game based on the small world concept that any individual in Hollywood can be linked to Kevin Bacon within six steps, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon was followed by SixDegrees.org, an online social network designed to link individuals and charities.
In partnership with SixDegrees.org and Network for Good, the University of Maryland launched the Do Good Challenge to see how much “good” students can do from now until spring break.
Any student from the University of Maryland can enter the competition as an individual or group in three ways: create and develop a project for a cause you are passionate about, do good for an existing campus student group, or do good for an existing non-profit organization.
Participants have until March 16 to “do good” and need to send their applications of why they should be a finalist of the competition by March 26. The six teams selected as finalists will be judged by a panel of celebrities including Kevin Bacon on campus. A number of prizes will be given out including a $5,000 first prize for advancing a cause and a round trip for two on a private jet to an Atlanta Hawks NBA game.
